German Silver vs Silver Plated vs Brass: Which Gift to Choose?
The differences between German silver, silver plated and brass gift items, and which suits each occasion.
German silver
An alloy of copper, nickel and zinc with a silver-like shine. It holds detailed carving and enamel well and needs little care, which makes it ideal for decorative boxes, frames, candle stands and return gifts.
Silver plated
A base metal such as aluminium or brass coated with a thin layer of silver. It gives the look of silver at a lower price and is common in bowl sets, trays, glasses and idols. Wipe dry after use to keep the shine.
Brass
A warm gold-coloured metal with a traditional feel, used for diyas, urlis, kalash, shankh and sailing ships. Brass pieces are heavy, long-lasting and ideal for pooja and décor.
Which to choose
For weddings and premium client gifts, German silver. For large employee orders, silver plated. For pooja, housewarmings and traditional décor, brass.
